Susan Stauber
DCT Board President
Susan Stauber’s passion to develop Door County Trails is matched only by her exceptional leadership skills. In her volunteer role as Board President of Door County Trails (DCT), Susan is on a mission to better connect our population centers and rural communities with sustainable pedestrian and bicycling trails for the common good. Susan refined her leadership, strategic thinking and collaboration skills during her diverse professional career which varied from clothing designer to president of a video production company. She is now harnessing those skills to lead DCT in creating a multi-use bicycle and pedestrian trail network across Door County.
Outside of her professional work, Susan embraces the natural world from her home in Egg Harbor and by seeking solace on the European continent where she enjoys long walks, coastal hikes, and wine picnics. Forever in search of scenic views and inspiration, Susan envisions, “a Door County where owning a car could be optional, but having a bike will be vital.”
Richard (Dick) Untch, MS
Urban Planner
DCT Vice President
A native of the south side of Chicago, Dick Untch brings over four decades of expertise in urban planning and community development to his role as Vice President of Door County Trails.
A passionate advocate for Door County’s natural beauty and heritage, Dick sees the area’s scenic vistas, woodlands, and waters as a remarkable resource for residents and visitors alike. He believes that a connected network of hiking and biking trails will enhance the county’s vibrancy and accessibility, aligning with its strong environmental preservation ethic.
Dick has extensive experience in leading public participation efforts, grant-supported projects, and consensus building to achieve meaningful community improvements.
Now retired, Dick divides his time between Naperville, Illinois, and Fish Creek, Wisconsin, where he enjoys his time with his wife Barb, their two children, and five grandchildren.
Dick is proud to contribute his expertise to the Door County Trails initiative while collaborating with a talented and passionate team of volunteers in creating a safe, accessible, and sustainable trail network that will benefit the entire Door County community.
Amanda Stuck
Community Engagement Manager
DCT Board Secretary
Amanda Stuck brings a wealth of leadership experience and a deep commitment to community engagement to her role as Board Secretary for Door County Trails. Amanda’s professional and civic background makes her a valuable advocate for developing sustainable pedestrian and bicycling trails to connect and enhance Door County communities. She currently serves as the Community Engagement Manager at Destination Door County, drawing from her extensive experience as a former Wisconsin state legislator, housing specialist with the Appleton Housing Authority, and member of the Army Reserves. Amanda is passionate about fostering connections through trail development, believing that such initiatives strengthen communities and improve our quality of life. She is honored to contribute her expertise and enthusiasm to Door County Trails helping to create a legacy of accessible, sustainable outdoor spaces for all.
Jane Jerzak, CPA, RN
DCT Board Treasurer
When she’s not exploring the world, Jane Jerzak serves as the Board Treasurer of Door County Trails, where she’s applying both her financial expertise as a licensed CPA and her organizational skills as a registered nurse. A recent addition to the Village of Egg Harbor, Jane is fully immersing herself in the community by leveraging her skills to develop sustainable pedestrian and bicycling trails that will connect and enhance Door County. Jane, her husband, and their three children are avid outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking and biking across the peninsula. A lifelong learner, Jane is passionate about making a lasting impact. “The opportunity to collaborate with visionary individuals toward a common goal is truly an honor. Together, we aim to create a legacy for Door County that will be cherished for generations.” Jane welcomes questions and ideas to support this vital initiative.
Craig Charles, MSE
Teacher
DCT Board Member
Craig Charles grew up chasing Lake Michigan waves before embarking on a life as a journalist, a teacher and an entrepreneur. He spends his days sharing the natural world with his wife, Julie, and is the author of Exploring Door County, the definitive outdoor guide book to the Door County Peninsula. You can often find Craig and Julie spinning their bike wheels or lacing up their hiking boots from their humble cottage in the Town of Egg Harbor. Explaining his support of Door County Trails, Craig says, “I have spent a lifetime hiking, riding and enjoying our Door County trails. Now, the time has arrived for me to chart a sustainable path that others may follow.”
James A. Downey, Attorney
Board Member
James A. Downey, a Green Bay native, has called Door County home since 2000. A graduate of Marquette University and Marquette University Law School (Class of 1993), he specializes in real estate, estate planning, business law, nonprofit advising, and family law.
Beyond his legal practice, James is deeply committed to community service and environmental stewardship. As an outdoor enthusiast, he understands the importance of preserving Door County’s natural spaces for future generations. His passion for fishing, history, and coin collecting reflects his appreciation for both the past and the present.
James lives in Sturgeon Bay with his wife, Deanah, a Spanish teacher at Southern Door High School, and their two sons. His dedication to Door County Trails stems from his belief that well-maintained trails enrich lives, strengthen communities, and foster a deeper connection to nature.
Samantha Herheim, PE
Professional Engineer
DCT Board Member
Sam Herheim is a Door County enthusiast who values trails for their ability to connect people to nature and foster healthier communities. She is a professional engineer with over 20 years of experience in trail design and harbors a passion for creating sustainable and accessible outdoor spaces. She earned a degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and her work focuses on designing bicycle and pedestrian facilities with an emphasis on ADA compliance. She currently leads the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Department as well as the Municipal Transportation Department at KL Engineering. Her expertise in trail strategy, design, and funding requirements makes her a key contributor to the Door County Trails mission.
Sam spends her free time camping, hiking, biking, gardening, and enjoying Door County with her husband Jason, son Michael, and daughter Amelia. Reflecting on her commitment to the cause, Sam said, “I am passionate about trails because they make connections—to nature, to destinations, and between neighborhoods and communities.”
Tim Kazmierczak
DCT Board Member
Door County Parks Director
Tim Kazmierczak is the Door County Parks Manager, overseeing 1,000 acres of pure Wisconsin wonder. With a green thumb and a passion for the great outdoors, he's responsible for maintaining trails, ensuring park safety, restoring habitats, and developing educational programs—all while moonlighting as a WI Bat Ambassador and the Snowmobile Trail Coordinator for the County.
Before joining the parks department, Tim worked as a horticulturist at the USDA's Potato Genebank, where he perfected the art of growing the perfect fries. Now, he's joined the Door County Trails Board on a mission to connect communities, promote sustainable transportation, and showcase Door County's stunning landscapes through an expanded trail network.
When he's not busy enhancing the outdoor experience, Tim enjoys quality time with his wife, L'Erin, and their four children, continuing to soak up the Door County lifestyle. Tim is committed to creating a safer, more accessible system for residents and visitors alike.
William (Bill) Pennoyer
DCT Board Member
Bill Pennoyer has been a pivotal figure in enhancing the trail systems and recreational facilities within Door County. As a dedicated board member of the Friends of Peninsula State Park, his leadership and commitment have significantly contributed to developing and improving the park’s amenities, including completing phase one of the park’s two-phase new mountain bike trail system.
“As I bike Door County roads, it has always struck me as a missed opportunity that there are no biking trails or bike lanes for these beautiful rides. The Door County Trails group has an amazing group of dedicated and experienced professional people passionate about creating connecting trails in Door County.” Bill's knowledge and wisdom will add greatly to the DCT team, as will his philosophy on active transportation. “When I am in a car on a nice day in Door County, immediately I think I should be on a bike!”
Tim Pflieger, MSE
Professional Adventure Guide
DCT Board Member
Tim Pflieger grew up in Door County prior to launching his career as a professional adventure guide, outdoor skills instructor, and entrepreneur. From his Adventure Center in the Town of Sevastopol, Tim spends his days creating group adventures that he guides and outfits, facilitating team building and leadership development programs.
Tim is a licensed EMT who can often be found paddling the waters of Door County, hiking peninsula trails, or climbing mountains across the world. Tim explains his support of Door County Trails saying, “As a hiker, biker, and off-road Segway guide it is my civic duty to responsibly enjoy nature and the environment that supports us."
